Urban Legends: Aren't You Glad

STORY: A girl was studying at the library late one night. The clock was quickly approaching closing time. So, the girl picked up her books, and made her way back to her dorm room. When she arrived at her dorm, the lights were out. She knew that her roommate would be sleeping, so she quietly crept in and dropped off her books, grabbed some clothes, and brushed her teeth. Finally, she slipped out the door and made her way to her boyfriend's house where she spent the night.

The next day, she arrived back at the dorm to find her room surrounded by police. They asked if she lived there and she told them that she did. They took her into her room, and written in blood on the wall were the words "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the lights?" Her roommate was being murdered the previous night while she was in the room.

ORIGIN: This urban legend dates back to the 1960s. This is the decade when more women began going to university. Although it is impossible to trace the exact origin of this urban legend, some say that it first developed based on the distrust of the security of institutional life.
