The Shining (1980)

tagline for this movie says it all: it is indeed a masterpiece of modern
horror. Though it's a fair bit different from the Stephen King book it
was based on, it's merit as one of the best scary movies ever made still
stands the test of time. The Overlook Hotel in Colorado, where the movie
is based, has a history of taking a pretty strong mental toll on its caretakers
throughout the winter. When struggling writer Jack Torrence (incredibly
portrayed by Jack Nicholson) and his family accept the job as caretakers
of the hotel throughout the winter, everything seems wonderful at first;
the hotel and grounds are beautiful, Jack has plenty of time to write,
and Danny (Danny Lloyd) has hallway upon hallway to play in. But when
Jack, a former alcoholic, starts pining for a drink, the joyride starts
to turn a dark and bloody corner, just like the last time...
