 The
first in the series of books and movies based on Anne Rice's
The Vampire Chronicles, Interview follows the life of
an 18th century nobleman in New Orleans, Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad
Pitt) - for all of the 15 minutes it lasts. His family dead and his will
to live entirely gone, Louis draws the attention of Lestat de Lioncourt
(Tom Cruise), a mischevous and malevolent vampire, who decides to help
Louis end his life by turning him into a vampire as well. Louis is enthralled
with the change, but only very briefly; he refuses to kill. The movie
follows their "lives" throughout the next 200 years, and employs
a host of interesting and equally malevolent characters including Antonio
Banderas as the sort-of endearing Armand, and Kirsten Dunst in her award-winning
performance as 12 year old Claudia, rivalled only by Linda Blair's in
the Exorcist.
